The Journey from Cairo to Your Couch
Adopting a cat from Egypt is a life-changing decision—not just for you, but especially for the cat. People often ask how a rescued street cat can safely travel thousands of miles. The answer is a meticulously planned logistics operation where safety, health, and legality are our top priorities.
Step 1: The Pre-Flight Sanctuary
A few days before their big journey, our cats leave the shelter and are moved to a specialized pre-flight quarantine facility in Cairo. This is a calm environment where they can rest while undergoing final, rigorous health checks. Our veterinarians perform a complete physical examination to ensure every traveler is 100% fit for flight.
Step 2: Legal Paperwork & Health Passports
Every SunPaws traveler is a "legal resident." We handle all the complex international bureaucracy so you don’t have to. This includes:
-
Microchipping: Permanent identification linked to the owner.
-
International Travel Passport: A complete record of their medical history.
-
Rabies Titre Testing: For many destinations (like the EU), we facilitate blood testing in authorized laboratories to prove the cat is rabies-free, following strict international protocols.
-
Export Permits: All necessary documentation from Egyptian authorities.
Step 3: Choosing the Right Way to Fly
Depending on the destination and the number of cats traveling, we use two main methods:
-
Flight Parents: This is our most heartwarming method. A kind volunteer (a traveler flying the same route anyway) "escorts" the cat. The cat usually stays right in the cabin under the seat, or in a safe, pressurized area of the hold, and the volunteer hands them over to you at the airport.
-
Cargo Transport: For larger groups of cats, we utilize specialized Cargo Jets. These are not just "boxes in a plane"—this is a professional transport service in climate-controlled environments specifically designed for live animals.
Step 4: Global Destinations
Distance is no barrier to love. We have successfully relocated our rescues to:
-
Europe & United Kingdom
-
USA & Canada
-
Dubai & Middle East
The Cost of a Second Chance
To make these miracles possible, we ask adopters to cover the transportation costs. This fee covers the flight, the specialized travel crate, all legal documentation, and the final vet checks.
Approximate Travel Fee: 300 EUR / 350 USD (Please note: Costs may vary slightly based on the specific airline, destination, and current fuel surcharges.)
